Approximately every 11 minutes someone in the United States commits suicide.
Nationally among children aged 10 to 14, death by suicide is now more common than death from traffic accidents. *
New Mexico ranks 4th in the nation for youth suicide ages 15-19. **
Any death by suicide wounds the entire community. For far too long suicide and suicidal ideation has carried a stigma of weakness, something of which to be ashamed and kept quiet.
But silence kills. We need to do better for the coming generations of New Mexicans.
We need to help empower them to face their challenges with the support and guidance of their peers, loved ones, and trained professionals.
